General presentation illustration. Bait shape and hook placement vary with hook size and bait condition.

  1. 1Use a fresh, legally obtained soft-shell crab and remove loose legs if needed.
  2. 2Pass the hook through a leg socket or firm underside tissue.
  3. 3Bring the hook point out through the body so it remains unobstructed.
  4. 4Bind the soft bait gently with bait elastic without crushing the body.
